Peter travels to a small town and gets involved with the disappearance and murder of a young woman, Krista, after she made plans to meet but never showed up. Sheriff Mathis initially suspects Peter of having something to do with Krista’s disappearance, while Peter catch glimpses of the shapeshifters’ leader, Newton. As Krista’s death is related to the shapeshifters, Peter offers to help Mathis lend his expertise to solve the case. He also contacts Broyles to inform him of the situation, but tells him not to call Walter. Understanding that the shapeshifters are targeting him, Peter arms himself. Later, Mathis informs Peter that her partner has been taken. Frustrated she cannot call the FBI for help for fear her partner will never be seen again, Mathis agrees to work with Peter. Meanwhile, Walter outbursts in public, fearing that Peter will not come back to him. Peter and Mathis head back to where Krista’s murder took place and Peter encounters Newton and his henchmen, but they get away. After the discovery of another murder, Peter begins to doubt the shapeshifters’ motivies but eventually comes up with an idea to read and track the victims’ adrenaline spikes, which will let him find where the murders took place. They finally narrow down the location to a dairy farm. After Peter discovers the farm owner is responsible, the owner attempts to kill him but Peter manages to knock him down. The owner confesses that he kidnapped the women as they rejected him, while Mathis’ partner was kidnapped and tortured when he discovered the culprit. Mathis thanks Peter for his help and tells him that he will find a place in this world. As Peter prepares to head back to Boston, Newton arrives and brings the “man from the Other Side” to see him, who is the alternate Walter.
